Guangdong Ocean University is a provincial key university jointly built by the People's Government of Guangdong Province and the State Oceanic Administration of China. It is a comprehensive university featuring oceanography and aquaculture and coordinated development of multidisciplinary subjects, and an excellent institution in undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education, and a university with a complete degree authorization system of bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctoral degree.
The predecessor of the school is Guangdong Higher Fishery Vocational School, which was founded in 1935. In January 1997, Zhanjiang Fisheries College with a history of 62 years and Zhanjiang Agricultural College with a history of 39 years were merged to form Zhanjiang Ocean University, and in December 2001, Zhanjiang Meteorological School was merged into Zhanjiang Ocean University, which was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed Guangdong Ocean University. In June, 2005, approved by the Ministry of Education, Zhanjiang Ocean University changed its name to Guangdong Ocean University.
The school is located in the southernmost tip of the motherland's beautiful coastal city - Zhanjiang City, the existing Huguang Campus (the main campus), Xiashan Campus, Seaside Campus are located in the national AAA **** tourist attractions Huguang Rock World Geopark east of the Jiefang East Road, Xiashan District, No. 40, Zhanjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone, No. 43, Seaside Avenue. As the only ocean university on the coast of China's South China Sea, the construction and development of the school has always been the affectionate care and strong support of the national and provincial leaders.In January 1997, the former State ****** said happily when unveiling the plaque of the Ocean University that our country is in great need of such a university. The university has 18 secondary colleges, including College of Aquaculture, College of Food Science and Technology, College of Ocean and Meteorology, College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Economics and Management, College of Navigation, College of Information Technology, College of Software, College of Science, College of Liberal Arts, College of Law, College of Foreign Languages, College of Politics and Administration, College of Physical Education and Recreation, College of Song and Art, College of Vocational and Technical Sciences and College of Continuing Education, as well as one teaching department, the Department of Ideological and Political Theory Teaching. --The Teaching Department of Ideological and Political Theory Course and 1 independent college--Cunjin College of Guangdong Ocean University.
The school has a complete set of disciplines and specialties. The university has three doctoral degree-granting first-level disciplines, including “aquaculture”, “food science and engineering” and “marine science”; five master's degree programs of first-level disciplines and 21 master's degree programs of second-level disciplines; 68 undergraduate majors (including 10 majors of “first-level”). There are 5 first-level master's degree programs, 21 second-level master's degree programs, 3 master's degree programs (11 fields in total), and 68 undergraduate majors (10 of which are “one book” majors). The school's faculty is relatively strong. 120 people have been selected in the last four batches of higher education institutions in Guangdong Province, “Thousand Hundred and Ten Project” training object; 11 people selected for the training of outstanding young teachers in higher education institutions in Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province, 8 people selected for the “Sail Plan” high-level talent training object. The school is in good condition. Basic teaching and living facilities such as teaching buildings, science and technology buildings, libraries, gymnasiums, museums, student apartments, student canteens, as well as the Ocean Plaza, Cultural Plaza, sports fields and standard swimming pools are perfect. The total floor area of the school building reaches 658,900 square meters, the library has a collection of 2,560,000 books (including 800,000 e-books), the value of teaching and research equipment is 311 million yuan, and the value of fixed assets is about 1.59 billion yuan. The school has been effective in cultivating talents. The project “Enhancement of young shrimp resistance and disease-resistant ability of bioregulation of shrimp fry cultivation technology” won the third prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award in 2012, the project “Cultivation technology of night fluorescent pearl of pearl mussel of Marschus moschiferus” won the second prize of Science and Technology Award of the State Oceanic Administration in 2013, the projects “Bioregulation of shrimp pond water quality and environmental shrimp eco Biological control of shrimp pond water quality environment shrimp ecological aquaculture technology”, “high-value utilization of several protein resources fermentation technology research and utilization” 2 projects were awarded the 2013 Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award Third Prize. Shrimp seedling breeding and aquaculture, seedling breeding and aquaculture of marine valuable fish, marine fish disease prevention and control, pearl mussel culture and pearl breeding, aquatic products processing and storage, hybrid rice breeding, regional oceanography and other areas of research has reached the domestic advanced level. The extensive popularization and application of the scientific and technological achievements have strongly promoted the vigorous development of marine aquaculture in southern China and achieved great economic and social benefits.In 2013, the school, as the main technical support unit, assisted Zhanjiang Municipal Government in successfully applying for the National Agricultural Science and Technology Park of Zhanjiang Characteristic Aquaculture and Marine Industry. With the support of the school's technical force, Zhanjiang's production of seawater pearls alone accounts for two-thirds of the country's production, shrimp seedling production, aquaculture area, aquaculture production, feed production, processing scale, exports and trading volume of the seven aspects of the first in the country, Zhanjiang to build a "Southern Sea Valley" has made an important contribution. At present, the university is making every effort to implement the strategic plan of “promoting the connotative development of higher education” and “building a strong marine country” put forward by the 18th National Congress of the CPC, and is grasping the major opportunities of the national research and development of the South China Sea and the full implementation of the “Development Plan for the Guangdong Comprehensive Development Pilot Area for Ocean Economy” approved by the State Council in Guangdong.
