Note: How to View and Calculate Length of Service
Add up the number of days of service in the same navigation area, on vessels of the same class, and in the same position, then divide by 30; the resulting whole month is considered a month of service;
To apply for promotion to captain or chief engineer, candidates must have at least 18 months of experience as first mate or chief engineer on vessels of the corresponding class and in the corresponding navigation area;
To apply for promotion to First Mate or Chief Engineer, candidates must have at least 12 months of experience as Second Mate or Second Engineer on vessels of the corresponding class and in the corresponding navigation area;
To apply for an expansion of the navigation area or an increase in tonnage (horsepower), applicants must have at least 12 months of experience in their current position, on vessels of the corresponding class, and in the relevant navigation area;
Seafarer service credits are calculated on a monthly basis. For example:
A crew member has two records of appointment and termination: one from January 4, 2013, to March 20, 2013, and the other from April 4, 2013, to June 30, 2013. The crew member’s length of service is calculated as follows:
（1) The period from January 4, 2013, to March 3, 2013, spans two months, and the period from March 4 to March 20 spans 17 days;
（2) The period from April 4, 2013, to June 3, 2013, spans 2 months, while the period from June 4 to June 30 spans 27 days;
（3) Calculation of the number of extra days for each entry: (17 + 27) / 30 = 1 (rounded to the nearest whole number)
（4) This crew member's actual seniority is: 2+2+1=5 (months).
